about

This is one of the best recordings by the original line-up of In Cahoots, broadcast live by AVRO radio during the band's Dutch tour of May 1984. It is quite well preserved, too, save for the first few seconds of "Above and Below" (not itself the first piece performed, but the first to be recorded) and a short section of "Second Sight" where tape damage required a temporary switch to mono. It's a fairly standard set as far as the selection of tracks is concerned, all Miller originals many of which became staples of the band's set right to the end, with two exceptions - "Nowadays A Silhouette", of which no version of the In Cahoots arrangement (quite different to either National Health or Gowen Miller Sinclair Tomkins) has been released officially, and "Hard Shoulder," heard in a very different arrangement and performance by Phil and Dave Stewart on "Cutting Both Ways."

This is a "recording of indeterminate origin," i.e. a bootleg. If you buy it from me, it'll be the first time anyone in the band has seen a quid from it.

Richard Sinclair Martina Franca, Italy

The leading voice of the Canterbury Scene. Beginning with the Wilde Flowers, on to Caravan, Hatfield & the North, Camel and all his recent group efforts, Richard Sinclair's singing and bass playing have been a constant source of delight for lovers of Canterbury music. A deep, low voice, a talent for memorable melodies few can match, plus an imaginative and fluid technique on the bass and guitar. ... more
